Ion Izagirre is starting his 17th season as a professional with Cofidis, and he does so in a team going through a period of full reinvention. During an interview that you’ll be able to read here in the next few days, Ion confirms to me that 2026 will be his last year as a professional, a decision discussed and agreed with his family.

Eighteen professional victories to his name, including two Tour de France stages, one at La Vuelta, one at the Giro, and an overall win in the race of his life, Itzulia. The Basque rider will bow out as one of the finest stage hunters in the Spanish peloton of the 21st century.
